Simile: A Deathly Night

Simile: A Deathly Night

A Poem by Gabriel Miller
"

My poem comparing Death (or the Grimm Reaper) to the dark night.

"

Little more than the darkened skies of the night,

He is.

Where our worst nightmares are, where our strongest fears thrive.

Uncaring of our feelings,

And disregarding of our thoughts,

We wait for morning to come, when again daylight covers His workings.

Like the thick, cold, blackness of night-

He comes to each of our doors.

And each time our sun fades-

We wish night away.

But still He comes, like the silent deathly wind of nightfall

To each man and woman

His black tips extend, as the dark shadows cover the earth.

And when we rest, daylight to shadows bright

We are carried through the eternal darkness

And brought to the other side,

Where His night is light and day’s stay ablaze.

Each time He comes

We huddle and hide,

But what would we do

If night were not supplied.
