Contrast

Contrast

A Poem by Minjoph

Life can seem dull
A scale of monochrome grey
Numbing the mind
Leaving us deaf and blind
Unable to see all that's there

Then there are the moments
The highest highs and the lowest lows
They shake you up
Wake you up
And for a while
You see, you hear
You feel, you live

Finding a crush
Swinging like a pendulum
Hope and despair
They love me
They love me not
Pleasure and pain
And the thrill is intoxicating

Your apartment burns
You lose your stuff
Crashing at a friend's place
No one was hurt
What does things matter
Compared to life and health?
The important things seem clear

News of a friend
Lost it for a spell
Tired of life
Tried to end it all
And that sinking feeling
Fear and dread
But when you see them next
Their being is so defined
They are so real
So precious

And thus we are reminded
By the contrast in life
What really matters
And it teaches us to feel
