I build things from the debris

I build things from the debris

A Poem by MiriamMB
"

Just about picking up the pieces when you have one of those bad days, when your neck isn't long enough to see over the dark clouds.

"
Previous Version
This is a previous version of I build things from the debris.

I build things from the debris around me

After the harpy winds swept down and left

my world in waste.

Already the sun is pushing her way

Through a crowd of inquisitive clouds to come say hello

To apologize for being late

To remind me that she’s here

To ask if she can come down for some tea

Rays extended out and over everything

In repair

like many arms in the air

Her light helps me see where I’m going

What I’m doing

And what I have done so far

I use the wood that once built my safety

To build a smaller, sturdier home

I extract the seeds from my uprooted

Fruit trees and plant them again

I have hope for tomorrow.

Because already my garden sprouts

There is a warm fire outside my shack

When night comes and the sun

Regretfully takes her leave.
