Urban Drummer Boy

Urban Drummer Boy

A Poem by Jason
"

When I wrote this I remember the story and song of the little drummer boy and how he went around banging his drum to spread the word. My voice is the drum and my words be the message in this one.

"

Urban drummer boy rum-pum-pum
Urban drummer boy rum-pum-pum
Me and my drum, me and my drum

I’m a black man from the mean streets of Philly.
Or in other words I’m a black man
From any hood in the Union .
But I got a message for the people.
So I’ll use my tongue and drum.
It’s time to stand and fight,
The revolution isn’t here but its in sight.
Uncle Sam knows this,
So he put cameras on every pole and traffic light.
Freedoms being takin’ away,
Like a thief in the night.

Urban drummer boy rum-pum-pum
Urban drummer boy rum-pum-pum
Me and my drum, me and my drum

Don’t call me n***a no more!
I’m not that,
And we need to stop waging their,
Verbal and physiological war
Through the prison and welfare system
Our African family structure has been
Fractured and tore.
That is why it’s so easy for us too
Call our fathers, mothers, brothers, and sisters
N****s, b*****s, dogs and w****s.
There is no such thing as a good n***a
They just create within our race a divide
So amongst ourselves we fight and collide.
And above us all they attempt to
Smile soar and glide.

Urban drummer boy rum-pum-pum
Urban drummer boy rum-pum-pum
Me and my drum, me and my drum

Brothers it’s time to step up to the plate.
It’s time to be husbands and fathers.
Not for our sake but for our children’s sake.
For that it is never to late!
Because it’s their future that’s at stake.
If your not ready to play your part,
Than sex must wait.
We were built strong to hold that weight.
Let this be the day we rewrite
Our history on a new slate.

Urban drummer boy rum-pum-pum
Urban drummer boy rum-pum-pum
Me and my drum, me and my drum

Ladies it’s time to take your place
On the throne as Queens,
And don’t let anyone stand in the way
Of you achieving your dreams.
Realize that your in control,
And the power of the p***y
Is what makes us men weak.
Any healthy relationship
Should be run as a 50/50 team.
Sex is meant to create life
Not just to release horny
Frustration and steam.
It starts with you and from
Unprotected sex we must be weaned.
Not just for fear of creating a baby,
But to stay clean.
Wait for the person or persons you love.
Because a pregnancy with out love or support
Causes our future generations
To turn out lost and mean.
Remember your our Queens.

Urban drummer boy rum-pum-pum
Urban drummer boy rum-pum-pum
Me and my drum, me and my drum

Brothers and sisters lets hold hands and unite.
Let us not forget our ancestors struggle and fight
For freedom and equality.
Our job is to make their dreams a reality.
Let us all learn from personal and others mistakes,
And be not afraid to tempt fate
Cause our identity as a people is at stake.
We are not the picture “they” attempt to paint
We are the architects of nations,
And through our sweat, tears and blood
America grew out of
Native American bones and mud.

Wow.....What imagery. What a focus and yet we still need both men and women to realize that there more of a purpose to life than what money can obtain. Reality is before you and although we may dream we must not allow our dreams to cloud our vision. Become an adult and stop leaning on the shoulders of others for all your victory. Sometime you must stand alone to have pride.

Great Piece
