Turkish delight

Turkish delight

A Poem by Kate

A sickle and a star
On the red background
Hoisted on the border
Of Turkish delight
Wobbling on plates of desire
Blowing up your eyes
Squirming at jelly squares
Sand castles desserts
Heaps of sugar treats
Mounds of chocolate bits
A massive buffet hunt
Stimulating papillae on the tongue
Conceiving a rainbow of tastes
Liaising with colours
Of nutritional health

An exquisite cuisine
Peeping from underneath
Dishes of chicken pieces
Cauliflower soup with croutons
Popping up like a popcorn
Veggies and fruit ready to eat
A steamed mackerel
Donned in skin next to
A grilled lamb and
For vegetarians
An omelette as fresh as
Pancakes and cheesy bread
Bestowing a stomach pain!

And after that...

Turkish waiters shuffling
Behind the bar
Tipping your balance
Taking you for a ride
On a flying carpet
Into a dark night sky
Of writhing tipsy stars
Concocting cocktails with
Shots of xx per cent
Losing the count...

...Of

Strayed cats
Meowing your way
Demanding the attention
And a bird as their prey
While cars in the traffic jam
Butter you with horns
Haggling obtrusively to sell it all
And as a gift
Drink DRink DRINK an apple tea
If you buy, then for free
In a pear-curved glass
Sitting on a saucer
With two sugar cubes

Of colour white
Quaking under prayers
Hollering from slim towers!
