Not Ever

Not Ever

A Poem by Vague

He was fine until he wound up alone in this room with your face. It looks like the you he remembers, but -you- don't. The stars, the echoes, the snowflakes, and sounds said you'd always be here, falling; neglected to mention he'd have to look in the shadows of your smile from so far away. A kiss won't bring her back will it? The water's now up to his knees, and he - cries out over the ever turning waves as we drift along separately, singing, and he watches the spot where the image of lovers dancing and spinning remains - he can only watch so long as he sees what forever is and could have been, all at once. He looks past and he sees her watching them too. Only now does he realize that his weren't the only cries over the water that day.
