Another Moonlit Night

Another Moonlit Night

A Poem by Naval Tharun
"

Another Moonlit Night

"

Fear dwells in those tears which fall

as she wonders why her mother won’t wake.

She squeezes her palm, pokes her cheek

wishing for a hug to dispel the fear.

Poor little girl! she know not what happened

The pain, the despair that woman fought through

Those conflicted emotions, the craving for liberation

The heftiness of love

She wanted to live for her daughter

She wanted to go for herself

She had to make a choice,

but the little girl will never know how hard it was

She’ll never know why

Decades pass by to another moonlit night

Clenching the pills in her fist,

she fights the same demons her mother did

But she has no one to live for, nowhere else to go

For her the choice is easy as she reminisces her past

Maybe if her mother had awoken that day,

Maybe if she had held her tight and nipped her fears at the bud

She wouldn’t have lost her way,

She wouldn’t have tumbled down the rabbit hole,

She wouldn’t be opening the pillbox

Only if her mother had awoken that day...

It is a genetic predisposition. Stress summons it. Good work.
