Soldier's Life

Soldier's Life

A Poem by NerdGirl

Soldier's Life

All around the battlefield you could see the dead.
You could hear the gunshots and screams.
You could smell the gun powder and rotting flesh.

All the men could feel was fear.
They controlled it and used it.
It was their fuel, the air they breathed .
Fear was all there was.

When it was over there was hope.
The men went home to their families.
They could sleep in a bed, and kiss their wives.

For the men that would never return,
they were laid to rest.
They fought and died for us.
They are part of who we are.
And now they rest in Flanders Fields.

The First World War should have been the last war ever fought. So many lost their lives, from the UK a whole generation slaughtered. But man will never learn. Enjoyed the read
