Embu

Embu

A Poem by Neville
"

An embu is a moving prayer & the one performed this early morning was for someone believed to be very special..

"

Embu

My most recent

Moving prayer or embu

Was performed

Today in silence

As promised

With no clock or mirror

Or stained glass

To remind me

Of where or when

Or how or what

Pray treat this

Dedication as a gift

Ultimately intended

For the eyes

Of you know who

It does not

Require incense, chimes,

Amen’s or peeling bells

Since there really is no need

For words at all

He does not know me

And you are gone

But wish him well

And encourage him

To soldier on

Then when truly done

Blow all recollection

Of this embu

To the wind regardless

Very interesting poem...
Your choice of works pulled me back in to reread this poem again and then again.
I really enjoyed each read.

You are most welcome
I am moved in silent words to not blow your recollection to the wind, but understand that time has no bearing on prayer and your dedication is read regardless. You are a poetic soldier writing bullets!

you are most kind and I thank you for it... N
i think about these prayers...and in a lifetime of religion, organized or not...i don't think there is a certain place for prayers...they just happen even in our thoughts, even without the words.

nicely expressed here.

A being is never 'gone' merely out of sight, perhaps. We each have our own way of.. and yours is utterly, unselfishly, a touch of true divinity. I for instance, was standing in the porch of our church, turning a key at half past six.. walking in, feeling the chill, yet knowing i was where what happens, can happen. MY two dogs, sat by the font.. i lit six candles, watched them flicker to life.. and saw the spirit of what you include make its way here and there... perhaps to the wind regardless peeping in to see if all's well, if perhaps the bats are keeping watch.. An hour. Trying to empty mind.. but a tear got in the way, so where and what memories actually surfaced.. strange you use the words here and there, not many but perhaps shows that prayers and special thoughts are what they are.. silent in intent.. always. You leave the most Beautiful ..

Truly the most original message about this topic I’ve ever seen! I so agree that prayer can be more meaningful when it’s not some obligatory utterance done only when the trappings are right for a sacred moment. To me, prayer is an on-going conversation with God where I share all my thoughts & feelings in spatterings thru-out each day. I’m sure your special someone will be uplifted by your heartfelt & well-crafted message . . . plus, thanks for teaching me a new word! *smile*Fondly, Margie
