Yes.. its a love poem..

No Cage for Thee

 

The brightness of the light

You see

Is greater than

The you and me

So take these words

Fly high and free

I dare not keep you

Tho tempted as I am

And true

For you would

Surely die

Deprived of sun and moon

My love

And of the sea and sky

You shall never be

A keepsake

Nor must you be contained

I therefore set you free

My love

From cages and all chains...

Yes, but your poem trumpets the double entendre. The reader can interpret the subject as either of two life forms that require being set free: a bird or the love of your life. :-)

I don't know whether these words are personal so I can only comment in a general way. Love can be too possessive and if one side is smothering the other's individuality and creativity it is unhealthy. In your poem one of the pair has recognised the others containment and realises he/she needs to be released. This act is a sign of a selfless love which is surely unusual.
Relationships are so tricky and logic is often out the window!
