Rough Around the Edges

Rough Around the Edges

A Poem by Neville
"

she thought she could fly.. now she cant even crawl

"

Rough Around the Edges

She was rough

Around the edges

She had a darkness

Deep within

She has a black light

Plus a Tourniquet

And some pills

To keep her thin

So take a good look

From a distance

Go see what she became

Then tell me stranger

Who might really be to blame

For all the chaos that

Surrounds her and for her

Crazy claim to fame

i have been Plath-ing lately as you know...interesting to me how this poem almost reflects my thoughts of her and Ted...who is really to blame? yes, we are who we are and that comes from within...but sometimes we get a lot of help from without...and blame really can go around.

The tourniquet suggests this individual was into IV drugs. Fame suggests possibly someone in the entertainment field, maybe a musician. Whatever, the thing has the sound of a tragedy.

Others may have some influence, but ultimately we have to accept responsibility for our own actions. Does anyone force you to inject yourself with crap? No, you do it yourself. You do it in the knowledge you could become addicted. Many people have dreadful upbringings but don't resort to bad habits. Many have good backgrounds and do resort to bad habits. Who knows what path we will take, but it is down to choice. We all have choices. Your poem is thought provoking Neville and is worthy of a debate, not just a short response.
