In the Dark

In the Dark

A Poem by John Alexander McFadyen
"

An inner self is sometimes destructive.

"

In the Dark

The black raven has returned;

descended from a blue sky

to cowl over my corpse

and pick at the fantasy world

into which I withdraw

when reality haunts me.

Pecking at my guilt

and opening wounds

so that raw flesh

and nerve endings

are exposed.

Exposed, there's the thing,

my inner world,

my deepest darkest thoughts

laid bare.

So now I must

shoo the bird

from my garden and dig.

Dig well and furiously

to re-intern these entrails.

But I know that crow

will come again,

all too soon.

From the title to the finish this is a fine tribute to the raven. Wear the guilty crown and it shall appear at your side. This is an inspiration to let the pen take a walk on the sinister side. Nice work my friend. I'm digging it.

Thank you so much Duff, the raven has long been a symbol of evil.

Unfortunately tis true Ron. Many thanks.
I wonder, does the guilt attract the crow like wasps to cola and the crow then blots out the sun or does the crow just come cyclically, blotting out the sun makes the phosphorus guilt glow...making it starker.
If I knew much about Poe I would say this is Poe-esque John but not being a fan I will leave that determination to others - tis very dark though.
good job J

Indeed dark Tony. The crow was used by Poe but has long been a symbol of dark, black doings and Sata.. read more

We all try and hide secrets, but somehow we always end up telling them to someone. Then when they leave we do all we can to try and hide them and make sure they never find them again. However, we know that when they come back. They can dig them up just as easily as we buried them. Thank you for the writing it was wonderful to read.
