Whizz-Bang Chirpy Pop

Whizz-Bang Chirpy Pop

A Poem by John Alexander McFadyen
"

When two stars collide.

"

Whizz-Bang Chirpy Pop

You hang

at a parlous attitude

for a star.

Ready to plummet

into the atmosphere,

where you will

burn up;

re-entry

being too hot to handle.

Perhaps we are

merely ripples in space

gravitational waves

resounding

across the universe,

our marriage

a collision of two neutron stars,

130 million light years away

from Earth.

Indeed we spiralled together

for mere seconds

then formed

that blackest

of holes,

devoid of life.

But not before

our super dense

alchemical explosion

showered space

in platinum and uranium

and gold.

I read 'Chirpy' and 'Pop' and immeadiately thought of the Scottish band 'Middle of the Road' (No1 with Chirpy Chirpy Cheep Cheep in the 70's)
I wasnt disappointed by the eventual content. Right up my street this one John - imbued with a real sense of awe of universal magnificence.

Wow - cool. Two camp neutron stars I think though.
This read like after a lovely reunion there was a Big Bang in the separation then on a second reading maybe the reunion is celebrating. I’m lost! Lol
