You Are Going To Sierra Olta

You Are Going To Sierra Olta

A Poem by John Alexander McFadyen
"

Sierra Olta on the Costa Blanca

"

I was an alter boy once.

Granted, in the cold recesses

of the sacristy I sipped the blood of Christ

behind Cannon Aylward's back,

but I otherwise played the role

as any good Catholic boy might.

I drifted from that dark

and cowardly religion,

glad to be liberated from its dogma,

the shackles of faith and belief

in a holy trinity.

It left its scars upon me though,

deep welts of angry red skin

that remind me that 'souls'

are for shoes and poetry.

But decades of having

to keep soothing those wounds

have left my bones brittle,

my heart a little battered.

And now,

you are going to Sierra Olta today,

with friends.

You said a lot in these words. Sin, gin and life. Made us wonder. Can we be forgiven. I liked the journey, you took me with to a proper ending. I believe, we must forgive ourselves. Thank you Neville for sharing the powerful poetry.

About
Well, have a long and complicated story and started it as an autobiography on Bebo but got writer's block/memory fogging. People liked it though and kept asking for the next chapter! fools.. more..
