Inadequate

Nails dug into the earth as though

Fingertips dipped into water

And I watched the dampened earth seep

 Into the lines of your hands

Tongue to lips, to teeth

Eyes glistening and fixed

Mesmerized by the flightless

Crow that flailed helplessly

Among the leaves

I watched your spine stiffen and straighten

Before cracking until

Shards of your very being

Broke

And ripped

Through yellow tinged skin

Wrathful beings

Ravenous

Like wolverines

The imagery: restrained, almost controlled. Right before the poem leapt out and clawed into this reader. This was a wild animal. A wild wild animal. Excellent, bit of writing. The formatting, word choice, overall structure, it all lent itself to the potency / of this piece.
