My Darling Full-Grown Angel

He tells me to sit down, so I do

Unshed tears sting eyes of grey-blue

I can smell the soup burning; I don’t care,

I know he’s here to tell me of my Claire

I know, because her bed is still made

I just wish I had not gone on a tirade

His words fast, shoot above my head,

He tells me that my daughter is dead

Heart stops beating, ears start ringing –

Or is it her that I hear screaming?

I am numb, rushing to the sink I throw up

Fumbling, he hands me her favourite cup

I slide to the floor; I give in

The tears etch my face like rusting tin

Wishing I could have been by her side,

She was too young to have suddenly died…
