Emotionally Confused Teddy Bear

Emotionally Confused Teddy Bear

A Poem by Simon Welsh
"

I'll draw what I see in my dreams

"
Here I play with all the action figures and dolls
Sometimes I gather dust under the bed
I worry when he's not around
and I almost cry when I think
he's almost too old to hug me

Maybe I should fashion a paper plane
and take the skyline express
I'll find a new heart to make whole
and I'll be wanted once again
But what if I'm wrong about being forgotten?

I'll draw what I see in my dreams
on the steaming windows
I hope they never disappear
because I have little else...

He picked me up again today
My heart rejoiced almost violently
But I was being thrown along with the others
into the chest out of sight, out of mind

One day, I'll make my escape
but what if he really does miss me?

Someone cut my little heart out
I'm sick of feeling like this
Take this fabric and make me wings
I'll fly high among my wishes
And if I never come back
please remember me
being held by the loving arms
of Elliott, aged eight

I often think about things like this. I remember, I reluctantly had to leave my toys at home when I went to kindergarten. I thought that they missed me when I was gone. Your writing makes me remember my childhood. Very sad piece, but in excellent sights.

I love the perspective of this. And this history that goes along with it. Wonderful

I'm the wrong side of forty now, still have the teddy bear I had as a kid. A clever poem this, well written with just the right touch of wistfulness. Get him out and give him a cuddle again. T

The outgrowing of childhood things can be painful, Boy do this much earlier than girls because society tells them they should. Many girls still leave for college with a favorite stuffed animal. as a matter of fact they are still receiving them then too..maybe dressed in a collage T-shirt..but still. You did a great job with the personification here and making us think about things gone by from our childhood past.

This tugged at my heart a bit.. I have a few childhood "friends" that I think fondly of myself

"Maybe I should fashion a paper plane" Love your wording ...
