Only Yesterday

Only Yesterday

A Poem by Bethany Woody

It seems like only yesterday

that you first arrived

But here you are

starting school at the age of five

 Growing up so fast

where did the time go

Before you know it today is gone

and now it is tomorrow.

It seems like only yesterday

that you first arrived

But here you are at sixteen

learning how to drive

What does the future hold

no one ever knows

And everyone is unaware

of where time really goes.

It seems like only yesterday

that you first arrived

But dressed all in white

you make a beautiful bride

Soon there will be children

to pass along the days

And questions as to time

and why it never stays.

It seems like only yesterday

that you first arrived

But at the end

you fulfilled for all that you strived

Between yesterday, today, and tomorrow

I did my best to fill your days and left no room for sorrow.
