White Rose

White Rose

A Poem by Bethany Woody

He promised love forever
with a single white rose
thorns slice my fingers
should have been a warning

He said eternal devotion
to my heart alone
the petals wilted slowly
should have seen the signs.

Love blinds us all
to the perfect imperfections
velvet petals like
whispered promises.

The lies we tenderly speak
cut the heart deeply
tiny little thorns
pierce the flesh like knives.

Promises and lies
petals and thorns
bright white innocence
wilted into death.

He promised love forever
with a single white rose.

Love the analogy of the white rose being new love and the signs that it wasn't as pure as it seems... hind sight is twenty twenty and love can be blind... funny what revelations you can make once the relationship is over... i can relate and love this piece.
