Remember The 11th Of September

Remember The 11th Of September

A Poem by Bethany Woody
"

A tribute to that fateful day. We must never forget those who were lost or those who became heros.

"

Remember, remember the 11th of September

when the world ceased to exist

when time stood still

and traffic stopped on the I 95,

we held our breaths

and waited…

Remember, remember the 11th of September

when we emerged battered,

coughing and choking

bleeding and broken

from the mountain of rubble…

Remember, remember the 11th of September

when some did not survive

when mothers cried

and fathers cursed

an unforeseen attack

when confused children wept alone…

Time has gone by now and still we remember

not just what was lost but what was gained…

Remember, remember the 11th of September

when stranger became friend

out of need and fear

when we stood tall and proud

and would not back down

from a faceless enemy…

Remember, remember the 11th of September

when it came time to fight

For what we believed

When children left to come home grown

Protecting and serving

Till the end of time…

Remember, remember the 11th of September

Author's Note

Bethany Woody
I must give credit to the author of the famous Guy Fawkes poem as I did use some poetic license with his wording.

this one brough tears today - i've been reading tributes and such and each recount has a message. i take from this your words, " a stranger became a friend ". beautiful words. we can point fingers and blame, but we can never forget how today touched so many, and how lines of race and status were crossed in the face of terror. bless you.
