Wait For Me My Darling

Wait For Me My Darling

A Poem by Questin Blackmore
"

The story of a man who goes to war but returns less than as he left.

"
Wait for me my darling
In the soft and glistening rain
Wait for me my darling
Even through the pain

Wait for me my darling
For though I may be gone long
Wait for me my darling
Remember me in song

Wait for me my darling
As I protect the ones I love
Wait for me my darling
When peace comes like a dove

I've waited for you my darling
In the heat of the day
I've waited for you my darling
Return to me I pray

I've waited for you my darling
Even though you have not returned
I've waited for you my darling
Now something I have learned

Why in the unfortunate hour
Do I read this yellow letter
It tells of your disappearance
I wish it said something better

They came past again
Before your ceremony
Telling me how sorry
Though your casket is a phony

They tell me your body
Lies somewhere along the plains
They hope to find it soon
As they fly over in their planes

I've moved on my darling
Someone else I have met
The wedding was last week
We don't have children yet

I have returned my darling
From the horrors I have seen
I have returned for you my darling
Though long gone I have been

Why didn't you wait for me my darling
Even though I was gone too long
I would have waited for you my darling
And remembered you in song

Wait for me my darling
In the soft and glistening rain
Wait for me my darling
Even through the pain

Wait for me my darling
For though I may be gone long
Wait for me my darling
Remember me in song

Wait for me my darling
As I protect the ones I love
Wait for me my darling
When peace comes like a dove
