The Calm/ The Battle/ The Aftermath

The Calm/ The Battle/ The Aftermath

A Poem by Chris T.
"

A three part lyrical story.

"

this morning we wake
to the screams of the damned

---------------------------------------------------

Part 1: The Calm

--------------------------------------------------

We each clutch a lone brick
 in shaking cracked hands

We've been hunted like dogs
 for far too long

By the trucks and the tanks
 bombs from their planes

they wish to silence
 with their tools of war

but no violent stitching
 can still our voice anymore

Our people are fearful
 for what, for what?

They are counting on us
To balance a scale so unjust

Through boarded up windows
we will let them breathe deep
The cool morning air
 so freely while we fight

Today we will stand for the people
 and their right to believe

We will dismantle the scale
with our bricks and our fists

We will set alight their message
and let it burn in their midst

We will end our attempts
to appeal with our words

With this period dotted
 and the silence it brings

The oppressive agenda will lie dead at our feet
Now we march
To glory
Now we march
For defeat

----------------------------------------------------------------

Part 2: The Battle

 ----------------------------------------------------------------

The end is here

We can't turn back

A higher meaning

Has found us

We can't turn back

Call out my name

through the ashen dust

and liberating flames

Our lives will never be the same

No, we can’t turn back anymore

---------------------------------------------

Part 3: The Aftermath

--------------------------------------------

Believe now

Tomorrow will be

a new day
