A Story by chandler riesen

CHAPTER 1

My home was a smaller home, nothing big, nothing special, just a two room, one bath house. Not to many colors, tan, gray, all bland, the neighborhood never gets sun, always cloudy, rainy, every house was the same for miles. My life wasn’t to colorful either, job as a warehouse stocker, same thing every day, waking up to my alarm clock going off, throwing off my blankets from my bed, putting on my jeans, socks, and my jacket, eat, leave, repeat. I would always look around my empty room when I woke up, it was tan colored, hard wooden floor, just like the whole house, one dresser for my clothes, a chest for...nothing, never put anything in there, never, never open it, he told me, never. A bit of water damage happened to be around the corners of the house, inside and out, same thing, every, day. I am not special.

I did happen to have a desk in the second room of my house, just a room and a desk with my notebook and my drawings and stories. All of them the same, about a boy and his imaginary friend, Hyde. They loved to play together, they played hide and seek, never changed, the boy would never be able to find his friend, he would then cry, and cry, and cry. Same story, the only thing that changes was Hyde, I’m never sure what he looks like. Soon, soon I will make him out. Soon I will find him.

CHAPTER 2

I got home saturday night, around 8:30, I walked through my door, just an empty hallway, which lead to my kitchen, and to the left and right were the doors at the end of the hallway, I felt like I needed to write in my notebook. I open the door, saw some dark marks on the door, unusual, no windows were in this room, just on desk, one lamp, one chair. I pulled out my chair, made a scraping noise as it grated against the floor, I picked up my pencil, opened my book, and I said what I always said before I wrote,

“Ready to play”?

Only if you are”

It replied in a deep voice which seemed far away as if wind was blowing around the room even though there was no where for wind to entertain me. He replied before I could say anything else,

I thought you forgot about me”

“How could I forget about you, I’ve got a question for you today”

Let, me guess, you want to play a game right? Oh, maybe, perhaps, my favorite one?”

“You know me all too well”

So I picked up my journal to see if I could write a different story today, I turned around pushed my chair back in and walked towards my door, hands shaking, heart beating, each step felt heavier and the door seemed to keep walking away from me, when I did finally reach the door I was a mess, sweating, shaking, sick to my stomach. He said to me,

Are you gonna finally find out where i’m hiding?”

“If I’m lucky I won’t, you’ve done nothing but give me fear”

“I’ve given you all you need”

“No, that’s not right!”

He was silent and I figured my night has begun.

CHAPTER 3

I placed my hand on the door knob, cold, just seems like it sucks all the heat out of my body when I touch it, but I turned it and stepped back into the hallway, It extended for miles, hundreds of doors, but my room was always right across from my writing room, I’ve always just went to all of the other doors besides of my room, I’m scared of what i’m going to find because I hear crying from the other side of the room, I decided to go into my room tonight, maybe I can find an answer. When I reached for my door it all went wrong, at the end of the hallway to my left I heard a scream of pure terror, with foot steps with it, I froze up until I saw what was with all of the noise a humanoid thing wearing all black, but had really long arms and legs, its head seemed to small for its tall  body, its skin was black, almost as if it was decaying, and it was screaming at me and it was about 100ft from me, I ran back into the writing room and slammed the door shut, it hit my door as I locked it shut. But it replied

How long can you stay in there, do you think, now that you know who I am?”

I ignored him, I started to draw him into my book, I had it fully drawn in less than a minute, but with all that screaming, then this silence scared me, I put my notebook perfectly on my desk, I walked over to the door, scared, fear pouring out of me everywhere, when I reached the door, I unlocked it and barely opened it, when I saw the shine of his pure white eyes looking straight at me, inches from my face, he screamed and I fell back and he moved slowly into the room. He closed the door behind him, leaving black marks as his fingers dragged across the door, then he asked,

“ The seeker found the seeked, Isn’t that right hyde?”

“Yea, it is, jekyll”

He said,

I will make it painless I promise, do I ever lie to you?”

It went black after that

CHAPTER 4

My alarm clock went off, I got up, looked around my room, bland colors, tan, gray, a little bit of water damage around the corners around the house, inside and out. I put on jeans, socks and my jacket, ate and left. I got home later that night, at around 8:30, walked into my house, I felt like I needed to write, so I went down to my writing room, saw some dark marks on my door, unusual, there were no windows in this room, I did happen to have a desk, just one desk, one chair, one lamp. I went to the desk, pulled out my chair out as it scraped against the wooden floor, I sat down, and said what I always said before I always wrote

“Ready to play?”  “Only if you are”
