HOT BEANSA Poem by SJ MullinsWritten for fun“How much do I mean to you?”she asked, While they lay outside in the hot sun and basked. Look up, baby, at that beautiful blue sky; I give you everything money can buy! Why can’t you tell me how you feel? I’m a man, baby, what’s the big deal? Who was that woman I saw you with? Oh honey, dearest, I plead the 5th. Why do I even bother to stay with you? Because you love me, baby, you know it’s true! If you keep this up, I surely won’t! Don’t make me beg, baby, please, please don’t! I do not want you to beg, my dearest But your words to me are not the clearest I want your body, soul, and mind Please make me yours for all time He thought about how to answer her But there was the other woman as it were He did not want to spill those hot beans So he took her on a trip to New Orleans. He thought surely that would shut her up Yet, when it didn’t, he bought her a pup Why, my darling, must you so often ask Why do you make everything such a task? I only asked how you feel about me It’s not a hard question that I can see You think I don’t know you’ve been shaming me With that despicable woman named Gracie Lee? Pack your bags and get out now; I make you this solemn vow! If I ever again have to look in your face, You’ll be singing soprano to Amazing Grace © 2016 Suzanna Jayne Mullins
