Seduced By Darkness

Seduced By Darkness

A Poem by RougeAngel

As the last of the sun's rays disappear below the horizon,

What is left of my hope fades away.

Another day has gone by.

Another lonely night has come.

My footsteps echo in the empty street.

I have no light by which to walk.

No moon, no stars...

Nothing but the chilling night wind that cuts through my body.

Block after block I wander,

Seeing not a single soul,

Only hearing sinister whispers in the shadows...

Whispers from invisible lips.

Suddenly a figure steps out from the shadows.

Though it is dim, I can see the features of a handsome man

With dark and alluring eyes.

He motions for me to come closer.

"You look lonely. I can give you what you need."

Everything within me screams to keep away from him

But I can't help but be drawn in.

Reluctantly, I take his outstreched hand and he whisks me into the shadows.

The stranger breathes seductive words to me as

He holds me in a terrible embrace.

He tells me everything I want to hear and

Slowly I begin to succumb to his demands.

I am caught in a sinful dance but I don't care.

Intertwined with the figure, my every movement is controlled by him.

He gently pushes me against a wall where a single stream of light filters down.

Intrigued by his playfulness, I begin to pull him close to me.

His warm sinews press against me and he traps me against the wall.

The stranger's eyes have me bewitched...

I can't move, I don't want to move.

The figure draws near...

As his face is washed in the light, a dreadful smile flashes across his face...

A smile that reveals his true intentions and his identity.

Suddenly the handsome face twists into the visage of the Oppressor and

I am in his clutches.

I struggle to break free but his grip is like a vice.

The Evil One throws me to the ground and before I can escape

He is on top of me...

And I am ravaged by my submission to his earlier bidding.

In the shadows he had seemed trustworthy.

The stranger had lured me in with promises of fulfillment

But all I found was an unquenchable thirst for more...

An unslakable hunger.

Finally another poor soul comes down the very same road I did

And he moves on to his next prey.

I manage to drag myself out of his dark lair

But where do I go now?

A soft rain begins to fall as I cry...

Tears from Heaven.

Tears for my pain?

He weeps because I do.

I start to walk the road again

And I see a new figure ahead of me.

He stands in brilliant light,

His face shines with love and mercy.

Fatigued, I collapse into His arms.

He catches those who have fallen.

He heals those who have been hurt.

Jesus saves those seduced by darkness.

This is a powerful piece of writing, i felt that it was too long before i read it through but once i had i realised why it was so long, this is fantastic, well done.

The allegory here is effective but I felt you sort of spoon fed the reader by being too explicit. What is the point of poetry if we just say, outright, what we meant to say without thought for the creative play of words. I mean do you really need to describe the seducer as "The Evil One?" I suppose there are different styles. This is just too prosey for my tastes. To its credit, however, I thought you did a good job setting an atmosphere. The urbanity adds to the tension and depiction of perversity. Other than that, little girls shouldn't go out alone at night.

"All the vampires walkin' through the valley move west down Ventura Boulevard..."

Fifth Place Caught My Eye and deserves this award

Your poem really caught my eye. It displayed the battle that each and every one of us face every day.

This really shows how Jesus can save a lost soul.

This is the epitome of every catholic school girl's BEST nightmare. Deliciously dark with Salvation? How wonderful we are at rationalizing the sacred. This is a great write. The Japanese would make this into a kind of white American girl terror porn. Super conflicted.Super write!

Such a powerful, vivid picture of the seduction and depth of evil! The graphic, destructive force that seems so alluring and yet is without mercy, and the grace of God that can restore the ravaged soul. Awesome!
