Still Cracked

Still Cracked

A Poem by Stephen Longo

Still Cracked

I lie awake at night

Expecting your touch

To be the sleight of hand

That wakes my smile

Still Cracked

The elevator door

And the sound of

False footsteps

Forward down the hall

Still Cracked

I wait

Hopeless

Refusing to believe

That your face and sound sleep

Settle no more

Still Cracked

My arms rest

Molded to your shape

Drunk on the idea

Of your return one day

Still Cracked

It’s where I’ll stay
