The Chessboard we named Life

The Chessboard we named Life

A Poem by SalvatoreDelRey

And they told us we would grow up
we'd burn like egyptian candles
we'd live in the land of milk and honey
we'd sit on a gilded throne
we'd laugh with our friends
we'd have no enemies
and that the world would be at peace
for late at night no men would lurk and kill
and a dove would fly by each resplendent morning
And they did not reveal that life is a chess board
where only the kings are important
and the little ones are treated different
and the queen can do what they want.
and they didn't explain that we'd live in a dwelling so grotesque
that many would lose their lives to travel to the real
land of milk and honey to
witness the doves fly.
