Arrivederci, Mio Amore

Arrivederci, Mio Amore

A Poem by Katie Lynn
"

Oh, mio amore...

"

I see his smile glint so bright,

In the slowly fading day,

I smile back in the dim light,

He’s about to be on his way.

He’s about to leave for another week,

I might not see him for three,

He walks to his car, shiny and sleek,

Raises his hand and beckons to me.

Oh, mio amore! Don’t go,

Ti amo, with all of my heart,

I cannot stand for you to leave me so,

Why must fate tear us apart?

I thirst for your sweet company,

I crave to hold you tight,

Fino ad incontrare nuovamente, arrivederci,

Soon we can end our plight.

Author's Note

Katie Lynn
This is a very personal point of view poem for me. My boyfriend lives 75 miles away and this is how I feel every time he has to leave after he comes to visit me. He always has to leave before sunset because it is impossible for him to see at night due to a genetic eye disease, so his visits are always cut short. Though it is still free to interpretation. (: And also, I made the rhythm and syllable count a little choppy in order to suggest the narrator is sad and crying. Most people become slightly incoherent when they sob lol and I am one of those people.
