THE KING

THE KING

A Poem by TerryDarcy-Ryan akaSheerTerror

The slanted sidewalk paved along a breakaway

Despite the clutter and cracks

Adorned with strong debris and escorted by rocks

Shadows jump, sweep and play

Folly with a wicked touch from the Moon's reflection

A stone throw away gloom keeps a watchful distance

At the end of the line hopeless awakes in silence

The dismal entry daunting and overlain

the ominous welcome mat invites and accommodates the oddest of occupants

Obscurity holds tight the outline of a scarcely seen aged man in recline

Sleeping deep within this agonies confine’s

Peaceful in appearance, a tale of grace rest on his face divine

Dreaming of his past, spry forgotten flashes on a trail left behind

Convinced in depth by rest, that he is in his own beds design

Passing traffic kept a luring rhythm to high measures and elegant low declines

paced similar to a taximeter keeping a mind set for a debt with time

Paid by Retrospect for chance and the moments left to linger

Headlights drift to lift and display broken glass a deceiver

Shining forced refraction's to glitter perfect as the unclaimed Treasure

U. S. A. in display fragmented ripped lettering of embroider

The Charmed belonging

a remnant of a cap, crowned a man’s legacy as a defender and a King

A King with no name, no one bowed or kissed his ring

No chimes fall in for a chorus of God save the King

Strangers and dark devices to be sure

Travel his majesty’s sidewalk in scores

Walk Blindly to deceit and disregard of the no named regal power

their betrayal multiplies like evil’s box for the lost and undiscovered

High expectations introduce us to depravity’s coward

Dawn enters primed to surround the royal realm as if jealous bound

Hunting and stabbing with light and a promise to astound

Crumpled and wasted resembling throw away junk abandoned

The King remained committed to his dreams on the deep side and drowning

Sounds of a recruit assist willing participants to birth melding

To a point of an unrest and association to remove the sovereign

Big outlandish sounds and even louder primed crowds of confusion

Fail to revive the king to action for a great feast in conflict ion

Dawn flexed and stretched as if illumination was a competition

The last of straggling Stars absconded taking refuge beyond blue skies light

Triumphant in her solitude Dawn claims the day incumbent

The King and his noble right inherent embraced Death’s familiar

The king is dead, long live the King’s Honor

Author's Note

The king is actually a homeless man who slept in the entry way of the office I used to open at 6 am I would arrive early when it was dark minutes for the sun to rise. The changes that occur from 5:20 to 6:00, the sunrises, people passing by go from wild night people to going to work during people. In just a few short minutes we go from day to night hustle and bustle with a very busy traffic way. The sidewalk around the building leading to the entry is not so inviting at night and a little crooked. The old guy was always sleeping in the entry way and he was always in such a peaceful rest. The entry way is in a perfect position that the darkness can shroud you. You can see everything but no one can see you. The old gentlemen was harmless and I no he wasn't a KING. When I began to write one day the process of coming to work early turned into this Poetry. If your still reading thank you and God Bless

Thank you I always appreciate your comments.
A different perspective on something I have never thought of...Nice...The word king here is beautifully expressed as metaphor. We can always see something in our surroundings which may add value to our beliefs. You always write something unique. Bravo for the concept, Terry :)

amen. He well might possess what many do not - a clear conscience, peace of mind and his honor given that he could sleep so well under the circumstances. that is when and where the good stuff of life lies. but you won't see that in any tv commercial because there is no money in it although there is unspeakable value. bravo ...
