Messy Angels

Messy Angels

A Poem by Merle Van Dee

What more do you want from me

I have paid my dues,

Done my time.

We all have demons to face,

Heaven knows I have mine

Tall as my ego

High as my friends.

I fell the farthest,

Resurfaced at my best.

Why do you want to drag me back under?

Is it my attitude

I don’t bow to your book?

Just want to be left alone like the rest.

That can’t be though when you’re called

To save the voiceless.

Those who believe they are useless.

So give me another shot of your poison

Blame me for your curse.

I can take it.

Have before

Will now.

Give it your best, but I won’t rest

Till I show them they aren’t the mess here.

Broken objects in need of fixing

Rather angels in need of blessing.

Leave them be, pick on me.

I have been where they are

Some days I still am.

The places you made me walk aren’t for them though.

They deserve better.

Not your 5 "step plan

To a holy life.

So give me a pen and pad,

I’ll help you out, lad.

Be glad.

It isn’t as bad as it seems

One day things do gleam,

And I can take you there.

Isn’t through a long drop and a sudden stop

You don’t need to bleed

Just to see the colors.

Rather a good walk

A quiet place.

A friendly face.

Ignore those who think you’re sin ridden.

Doing things forbidden.

They don’t read their own book,

Blind led by the blind.

I have been blamed for their ways as well.

Learned to fight back,

Won’t take their jack.

We trod a different path.

Feel it all more surely.

Don’t be afraid to feel emotions.

Learn to channel them.

The best poetry, art, and music

Comes from the broken like us.

Don’t bother yourself with their labels,

They won’t mean a thing later on.

So live as you are led,

Live till you’re dead

Claim your voice.

It really is your choice.

And when you are tired and weary,

I will be here to lend a helping hand.

Fly my broken angels

Bless us with your mess

And forever rest in peace.

This is an intense read about a champion who has overcome and now speaks out. I do love the intensity of it. You say so much about overcoming, and not listening to those who would love to pull you down. Your voice is needed. You speak to and for many.
Love the title and love these lines especially -
"Fly my broken angels
Bless us with your mess"

I am still here thinking about the word "broken"....better to be broken as in not in perfect shape, than to be broken as a spirited horse who has been tamed. Just a thought...I tend to do this when a piece grabs my interest. A lot of merit in this one.
