Ode to a dying tree

Ode to a dying tree

A Poem by SleeplessVolcano

There are no more leaves to fall
The wind cannot talk through your branches anymore
Your shadow casts outline
Of a now-forgotten stature -
A skeleton now,
Where once stood a beacon of life
And shelter
Against wind and rain
But somehow
I find solace in your barren nakedness
You have nothing
But you're still standing
Life seems absent
Though it's hidden in your roots
Like subterranean water
I'll wait with you
For the early summer's rain
Maybe my roots
May learn a trick or two from yours
And push out some green shoots
Before someone comes looking for fruit
At the height of summer
And find me wanting.

I've always felt a connection with trees. I think it has to do with their roots and how easily it is for them to let go. I love how you expressed yourself here. It's very poignant and quite touching. Beautiful photo, too!
