Good Night Charlotte

Good Night Charlotte

A Poem by CM-Stars

"Good night Charlotte”, he said
Quietly closing the door.
I could tell something was wrong
By the expression that he wore.

My dad is a private man,
Who keeps it all in.
But he's been hurting lately
With the death of his twin.

Often he'd share childhood stories
Which caused his face to beam.
“Twins have a unique bond” he said
Then would tell me about a dream.

His brother was on a beach
With a look of joy and peace.
My Dad walked up to him
With tears that wouldn't cease.

Suddenly he stopped and stared,
Overcome with a look of grief.
He just shook his head no,
Still in a state of disbelief.

Dad, You lost your best friend,
And your other half too.
But we can get through this,
I'm always here for you.

You give this poem such heartwarming poignancy, and it sings a kind of lullaby, as though despite him saying "good night" to you, you're actually saying "good night" to him; tucking him in to bed, and assuring him that in spite of everything, everything IS going to be alright. Nicely written! Well done!

This is very real and genuine, anyone whos lost a close family member could feel the raw emotion from this piece. I feel like I can almost see the look of grief on his face. Thank you for this.

A very heart felt and compassionate tribute.
I remember when my step dad, a tough SOB who is rather stoic, found out his son died.
He basically broke down and it was like seeing a god weep. It's tough cuz usually the dynamic is he consoles and is strong for you, but sometimes we must be there for them.
Poignant piece

This is a nice compassionate poem dedicated to your father who must be going through a very emotionally difficult time after losing his twin brother.

You expressed your thoughts well with a simple and precise rhyme scheme, staying true to the concept.

WELL DONE

i just love the sentiment of this poem...lost my dad a year ago March 3---he was always there for me, and i would like to think i was there for him and my mom as much as i could be living so far away from them...they, too, lived in NC...Southern Pines...
nice work...strong emotion, Charlotte.

Thank you for your kind words. ☺️ I appreciate them. I’m sorry to hear of your loss as well
I was just saying that poets need empathy and compassion to really understand the pain they see int eh world. I believe that artists bring light to darkness and that is what this poem talks about. Your desire to be there for your dad is honest, sweet, and powerfully expressed. I liked the poem and its affirmation of support.
