Seraphim Blues

Seraphim Blues

A Poem by Jethro del Cielo

If there ever was an angel for our loneliness,
hers are the prayers thought gone unheard,
those of days that were too thin for us to walk
and we believed ourselves too far from home
to make it back if we turned around

If there ever was a song for what lies in the unsung
let it be of quiet things that still can be heard
not of things either too deep or too distant
or that can't be undone

No, an angel like this should stay somewhere here above
for there's very little need for another one of us down here
just let us know of clouds and clear blue skies
so that we can dream of something fragile that isn't us
when the night is long and sleep far away.

Allow, for once, to remain unbroken what still is whole
and say nothing of reasons it should not
if you have to speak then speak softly, of something bright
of some small magic or miracle has been left alone
aye, any quiet dream like that

would be fine.
