Mirrors

Mirrors

A Poem by Melanie Genevieve
"

This poem was inspired by someone very close to me

"
Everything in your life is a mirror

you don’t see anything straight on

always looking at reflections of

the color of your dress or the makeup that you buy

someone else’s opinion, the smiles you see on facebook

and you try to look like them, you try to impress them

you mirror your life after what you see on the T.V, in a magazine

all you’ve ever wanted is that picture perfect house

with the wrap around porch so you could have a place

to put all your mirrors so you can force them on your family

turn them into mirrors too because maybe then you will

finally see yourself clearly

This is true, society has shaped the world around us to think that one way is the right way when each one is unique and that's what a mirror is suppose to portray and that's the beauty in your piece it tells it all.. Very good!

fascinating
this plays with the concept that we are shaped by the world's sentiments of us, one that is deeply rooted in psychology
you have a keen wit and a penchant for words

You take the classic idea of taking a look in the mirror, and you turn that into something very fresh. You do a very nice job of showing us the parts of our society that have a reflective quality, the places that cast the images they see back into the world. I especially liked the line you had in this one about having the picture perfect house to hang all of those mirrors. I enjoyed this one, thank you for sharing it.

Intriguing. Bold but still tempered. A sparkling poem. David

This struck a serious cord with me as I believe most people wear "mental" make-up and sneak up on the mirror afraid to see what's real! Very transparent and clear on the reality! Nice!
