A Poem by T. F. Rice

July 4, 2006

Kerouac’s spiders of

fire and light

hop across the

not-quite-night,

missing their stars

for summer lake clouds,

but catching sight

the sparkly whites

of human eyes

that for one night only

look up from indoor-lives:

a sea of fallen stars.
