A Chapter by TKBickel

“I’m not going in there!” Sam eyed the clear glassy store front and its contents. From its high heel shoes to the dresses in sight, including the bra and panties sets. Just looking at those was making him blush.

Samantha shoved from behind. “Oh yes you are or you can go back to the hotel.”

He wasn’t about to leave her alone. “Damn it Sammie! You are not playing fair.” He yanked the glass door open and waved his arm, “after you.”

She slipped by and shot an angelic smile at him. “Why thank you. That’s very gracious of you.”

“Yea, Yea,” and slapped her butt as she pasted by. Samantha let out a little squeak.

The store was big, bright and had everything girly you could think of. It made Sam uncomfortable in his skin, feeling like he just infiltrated into enemy territory.

A lady, wearing a form fitting white dress with black down the side, was busy giving a person detail instructions. The dress enhanced the curves that God blessed her with. The back scooped low and her hair twisted up high to expose a small tattoo of a vine of red roses on the top center of her back.

Samantha changed the pitch of her voice and snipped. “I have a complaint about the shoddy merchandise you are selling in here.” The lady, looking like a blond pin up model from the fifties, pivoted around to them on her black stiletto’s with matching white soles. The annoyed expression changed rapidly to complete joy when she realized it was Samantha. “How’s my favorite She Devil?”

Sam made an easy assumption that this lady, making the sound of rapid gun fire with her shoes on the white marble floor towards Samantha, was Macy.

Macy squealed. “Samantha, you’re early!”

Sam eased back, not wanting to get tangled up in the mess of arms.

Samantha braced for impact. “You know me. I don’t like to waste time.”

Macy continued hugging as the questioning commenced. “Why haven’t you called sooner? Where have you been? What was so damn important that you had to leave your fabulous job and FABILOUS FRIENDS?” She finally stopped hugging and sucked in a quick breath to start again while giving Samantha the up and down. “What the hell are you wearing? You look as bad as when I found you…Look at you back in those boots again…I thought I broke you of that habit.”

Macy finally realized Samantha wasn’t alone. Her eyes shifted to Sam and drank in every part of him, making Sam feel like he was some kind of exhibit. Her eyes snapped back to Samantha at half mast. “I thought you said you didn’t get married…or did you bring me an apology gift for leaving me in the dark for so long?”

Samantha couldn’t help but giggle at Macy. She was always great entertainment. It was just hard to get a word in with her. She took advantage of the break as Macy began circling Sam like a vulture, tapping her fiery red tipped finger on her matching full fiery red lips. “It’s great to see you. I’ve sure missed you and Brenda.” Samantha wished she had a camera to catch the priceless expression on Sam’s face. I guess I better save him before she starts licking her lips. “And no this is not a gift for you. This is…”

Macy plowed in. “No wait! Let me guess.” Stopping in front of him, Macy reached up and pulled the hair out of his eyes. “Look at those heavenly deep blue eyes…You really can swim in those…So this is the allusive Sam.”

He glanced quickly at Samantha with a questionable pull of the brow. So she’s talked about me. A smile broke loose ear to ear at knowing he was on her mind while she was gone.

“Wow, look at that smile.” Macy dropped the hair and pivoted back to Samantha pleading. “Oh pleeease, can I keep him?”

Samantha busted out laughing at the combination of the deathly scared look on Sam and the performance of Macy. “Tone it down there She Devil, you’re scaring the children.”

Giggling, Macy clicked her way back to Samantha and wrapped an arm around to usher her further in the store. The other hand waved back to Sam to follow. “You are in luck. I have everything ready for you. Do we want to have Sam try on the suit?”

Sam piped up before he became some kind of dress up doll. “It will fit. No need to mess it up.”

Both girls giggled again at the fun of raking the poor guy over the coals.

“It will fit him but I want to pick the tie.” Samantha worked over the silk handmade ties as Macy rapid fired more question while breathing heavy on Sam.

With the tie selection completed and their items bagged, Sam contemplated both while waiting by the zipped garment hanging bags lying on the counter. If I hold these maybe she’ll get the hint for us to go. He picked up the hooks poking out of the garment bags as Macy eyed him again.

“You have him well trained…Could I buy him from you?”

“Speaking of buying,” Samantha slipped out a credit card from her pocket and waved it between her fingers at Macy. “Charge it like a pissed rhino.”

He spied a look at the card. It was the card she swiped before leaving them. “I can’t believe you still have that card?” That has to be some of my best work if it’s still working.

She was half expecting for him to ask for it back. “I use it in extra special cases and this is an extra special case.”

Stepping up close, almost to the point of hovering right over her, he could feel her radiate warmth and energy without touching. His heavy whisper rumbled down to her. “Remind me to get you a new one.”

As she peeked up, there was a moment they broke off from reality. It was just the two of them playing an invisible I’m-not-touching-you-but-damn-close-to-doing-it dance. Macy’s voice sliced harshly into their little world as she came back with a little bag.

He stepped back and walked away to give the girls some space.

She handed over a smaller bag to Samantha. “Here are the shoes that I matched up to the shirt, like always. Also the hot little special is in the bag too.” She dropped her voice. “Is it for Jack? Did you finally wise up? You know he would be perfect for you and Brenda would get over it.”

Samantha hoped Sam didn’t catch a word. She snapped at Macy under her breath. “Macy. No it’s not and stay out of my love life.”

Macy quickly apologized for pricking on a sensitive subject. “Oh Samantha, I’m sorry. I’m doing it again…I just hate seeing you alone.”

The words did reach Sam with his enhance hearing. A rush of jealousy hit him briefly before he could grab the reins and pull it in. Now who is this Jack?

Samantha itched to get out. She was getting the impression he heard something by his tight body language. “Macy we got to go. We’ll see you tomorrow night and you know where. I have someone else for you to meet.”

Macy lit back up. “Really, who is it?”

She jumped in before the next round of the inquisition began. “Not a word more. You have to wait.” She snatched the bag out of Macy’s hands. “Now remember don’t tell Brenda and I’ll see you tomorrow.”

Macy pecked both sides of Samantha’s face. “I know, I know.” She waved at Sam. “Sam nice meeting you, if you get bored and need some spice in your life, I will be right here.”

Sam gave her a parting nod with the crooked grin. “Thanks for the offer but I don’t think I can keep up with you. I’ll just cramp your style.”

Macy batted her eyes at Samantha. “Oh Swoon…To bad…Ok, I’ll see you tomorrow, now scoot!” She started to herd Samantha to the door. “Some of us have to work.”

Sam and Samantha stood on the busy sidewalk in front of the store. He was still figuring out what all just happen to him. “Wow, that’s a well deserved nick name.”

Smiling, she held up her hands in defense. “You were warned.” Pointing at him, “You were one of the lucky ones.” Sam looked bewilder. “You got out in one piece.”

He glanced down at himself and back at Samantha. “I think everything is still there.” Quickly he snatched up her hand. “Let’s get out of here before she changes her mind.”

* * * * *

Riding the elevator up, Sam pondered on how he could get her to open up about her experiences in New York. Mainly he wanted to know about this Jack person. He kept telling himself, The past is the past and there is nothing to be jealous about…if there is anything in that past.

Doors slid open to an empty hall. Entering the gaudy gold and red hallway, his arm rose in front of her to corral her against the wall. He hovered over as she peered up to him from underneath her long dark lashes with a questionable look. She had a feeling what was coming. Damn it! I could put a boot in Macy’s a*s for causing me this problem!

“Sammie…You know you can tell me anything.”

Yep he’s fishin. “Yes…I believe we came to the conclusion that you are my personal Dr Phil.”

“I just want you to know…That I’m opened minded about anything…That might have happen in the past.”

Long lashes fluttered, “Thank you Sam but I’ve pretty much told you everything except,” Sam perked up hoping she would spill some information, “the girls. You’ve met Macy and you will meet Brenda tomorrow.” And that’s all you’re getting from me today big boy. A suspension grew in her that tomorrow might be a tough day. “Now don’t wrinkle the clothes and let’s get going…unless you have anything to tell me? I could give you a session of Phil time.”

For a brief moment, Sam wondered how she would react if she knew about the few girls he dated in the past but decided to let it go. “Nope, I’m fine.”

“Good, we’re all fine. Let’s put these up and drag Mick out of the room. I’m starving.” Fluently, she popped up on her toes for a quick peck, dunked under his arm and fished out the room key while moving to the door. He will get the answer to the real question on his mind tomorrow.
