Past LifeA Chapter by TKBickelMick’s eyebrow rose. “Excuse me, you mean me?” Samantha’s lips pulled with a strange smile. “It’s most definitely you. You were her protector back then and seem to be now…to a point. I’m truly impressed of your dedication. I would have adventured a guess that you both are Bonded.” Misty green eyes shifted up to Sam. “But it’s obvious that isn’t correct.” The possessed gaze resumed back to Mick. “When the two of you were Linked, it must have been incredibly strong. Stronger than I’ve ever seen to still have you gravitating to each other without the aid of pass memories guiding you.” The jealousy monster knocked at Sam’s door but he wasn’t answering. “Please explain what this Linking and Bonding are.” “Let me back up with a mythological history lesson so you’ll understand better. Legend has it the Creator of all birthed souls, gave the souls a vessel to exist in and was disappointed in seeing the lack of appreciation of their gifts and each other. In the act of disciplining, the Creator split the souls and tossed them randomly back into existence. These split souls now felt the need to connect, in search to fill the emptiness within. Linking is two coming together and filling the emptiness, but that is only to a point. It’s not a true fulfillment.” The spirit focused on Sam. “Bonding is forever. When the half soul finds their true other half, they can reconnect, become whole again.” Misty eyes boar deeper into Sam. “Once both halves declare themselves to each other, nothing can break the Bond. Not even death. If one dies before the other, Linking is the only way to stop the indescribable pain and slow the madness of the separation. Most hurry towards death to follow their true mate, to be reborn or move on, if they know how.” Is that what you did…follow Orelana? A shock wave of pain slammed through her again with another tear. “No, I didn’t follow my beloved. I was determined for revenge before joining her in the spirit realm. To much wrong needed to be right. Our people were changing and not for the better. At that time a small but growing rebel group hungered for power and attacked the Niagilety along with our way of life. Healers were their targets. If the rebels couldn’t control them, they killed them. All healers needed protectors and that person was normally the highest ranking militant in the Niagilety families guard forces.” Mick couldn’t help but feel a little smug. “Cool, I was some kind of a General.” “I believe if you would ask Sam his thoughts…Cool wouldn’t be the word he would use.” Sam poked a question in and ignored the massive beating of the jealousy monster determined to bust down his door. “Does the majority of your kind have this ability?” As Malmisha heaved a sigh, the new history lesson began. “Healers are rare. They have only existed in a few of the High Niagilety families. All of our kind has the ability to take energy from another living entity. If not careful, the receiver can drain all the energy from the donating entity.” If Samantha had control of her heart, it would have thumped like a jackrabbit itching fleas with the next question from Sam lips. “What happens to the donating entity if all energy is drained?” “Death-If the energy is from the environment,” a hand waved out around them, “that part is forever gone. The ground would turn black, nothing could ever grow in that spot again.” Samantha couldn’t wait. What happens to humans? “Living beings disintegrate to nothing. A dying or dead being still has an energy essence holding physical cells together for decay. Without it-the cells can’t hold together and simply disintegrate." The spirit pushed up her sleeve and yanked the bandage off her healing gash. She felt the sting of the tape ripping little hairs off her arm. “I see you don’t remember your healing gift either. Time to be your teacher again. Feel the cells, see the energy and weave new life into them. With the two of us together, we won’t need to extract energy from the environment around us. Watch and learn.” Malmisha kept her eyes on the slash. Her soft pink aura glowed. Skin around the cut itched and crawled. The cut itself began to blur. He closed her eyes and they both focus on the energy view. The cut became brighter, hotter and they saw deeper into it, down to the cells. Healthy cells mixed with the damaged, reforming and reanimating to the point she couldn’t identify the cut. She felt a stab of heat on her temple and watched him work on the little scare. In no time it was gone. The scar across her back burned hotter than the rest, making an urge to scratch at it. Why does this one feel so intense? The more extensive the damage is, the more energy needed to repair. I need your help. Fully open your mind to me and let our energy join. I don’t think so. Teliegh, I will not hurt you. I can’t continue on my own. Slowly she let her guard down, opening her mind with what little was blocked from him. Ok. Malmisha intertwined his essences with hers. The building energy crawled between them, nothing like with Sam. Why does the energy grows so slowly with us? With Sam, it’s an instantaneously rush of such power. I’m guessing your instantaneous rush that you feel is during some kind of sexual interaction. She never noticed it before but he was right. It might have at the beginning but it’s not like that anymore. Once you become, his pause made her weary and cautious, Linked. You are in-tune with each other and don’t need the practice of the connection. How can we…un-tune someone connected with us? Her eyes popped open and quickly scanned the brothers. She felt a wonder in his thoughts. You are Linked to both of them? Have they been fighting? She quickly ran through the last few months. Not any different than what brothers normally do. Teliegh, that’s a dangerous practice. You must not physically interact with your protector anymore if you want to keep what peace they still have with each other. Annoyance laced her thoughts as she grew tired of being treated as a damsel in distress needing protection. One-We don’t have that type of relationship, Two- He does have a name and Three- He is not my protector. I take care of myself thank you very much. Fascinating, how can you be Linked without physical interaction connecting the two of you? Well if you can’t answer that question how do you expect me too? As he pulled in her energy, joining it with his, her scare baked at a tolerable temperature. Vines of small white bell shaped flowers twined around her legs. The smell of jasmine rode in the cool breeze. She could see the end of the weaving near and was prepared for the desired relief of the dying burn but it didn’t come. Instead it intensified inside her body. What are you doing? The turn of their energy escalated, the heat blazed deep in her. She didn’t know how much more she could endure. Cold fingers pressed on her face. Sam silently watched until her cheeks became rosy red and sweat rolled down her temple. His hands cupped her heated face. “What are you doing to her?” “Rayzon has left her body in such ruins. I hope to amend his damages.” The earlier panic wave returned and wanted to drown Sam. “Leave her alone. My woman is perfect as is. In fact I think it’s time for you to totally leave her.” “Not quite yet.” She had a high pain tolerance and what Malmisha was doing surpassed it but not coming close to the spirit’s own. Please stop, I can’t take anymore. The agony muddied her mind. Memories slid around. The memory, of skinning the demon, brought hesitation to the incinerating feeling and shocked Malmisha. Teliegh…I would never thought you had that harshness in you. Did your protector teach you that? Life has been my teacher. Now please stop. She tried to break their connection and close him off but he drew more from her. The growing fire pressed on. More memories flashed and he hesitated on her and Sam’s world alternating kiss after slaying Dhaiti. You can’t with-hold so much power within yourself or you will burnout and die. It takes two to control and maintain. She heard him or maybe not, there was so much pain she couldn’t comprehend anything. I said STOP! Memories slid further back to her big meltdown. To all the uncontrolled raw power, raging hate, the need to kill and darkness edging in, trying to consume her. The pain gloriously ceased as she felt Malmisha shock. May the Creator grace us with mercy. Teliegh don’t let the darkness consume you. It has destroyed our people. The tale-tale memory slipped further back to revile the trigger of the meltdown. Sarrsus’ name howled in savage anger from her lips. © 2012 TKBickel |
