The Man

The Man

A Poem by Stephen Taws
"

Past to future. Darkness to hope.

"
A time long past turns a heart to despair
Shrinking lights fade, dimmer through time
Waves of heat coarse through flakey veins
Light and weak, churning acidic grime.
Pushing and pushing, yet the walls do not budge
Light shining through cracks give hope and to reason
Now blocked are these gaps, the way shut it would appear
The man foreboding, no gesture, no way to please him
Body stays still, fixed to hard wood
Piercing eyes envelop, curse rising deep one must abide
Sweat now empeeding, heart racing, mouth dry
Terror now gripping, a darkness inside.
Days gone by still sing a sad song
With no regret the man still marches on
Left with wounds buried deep, hard to begone
Head facing the sky, time to proudly carry on.
