The Pain Lingers

The Pain Lingers

A Poem by Matthew
"

May, 2012.

"

The pain lingers...
Long after the moment of shock,
As the world shatters in silence.
The pain lingers...
When the heart turns numb
And the soul grows cold.
The pain lingers...
As her hand slips away,
Emptiness replacing love's touch.
The pain lingers...
In every phone call, in every text,
As the heart races for hope of her.
The pain lingers...
While every passing couple rends
The heart asunder in bitter envy.
The pain lingers...
As every photo, every book,
Spins the mind in memories.
The pain lingers...
Through the darkness of nights
With no sleep, no dreams, no healing.
The pain lingers...

Matthew
This is a direct reference to the (at the time) catastrophically fresh loss of my fiancé.
