Graves of Decadence

Graves of Decadence

A Poem by The Message

Throughout the land
We'll recieve no hand
While they lie in contemplation
Of our annihiliation
and fall.
With dead children weeping
A genocidal seeping
Of ash,
Will you think me rash
To come and break it all?
To whispers breathing
Of chaos to come
They lounge about town
With black eyes unseeing
And apathy to plumb.
Of what will surely houn'
These lepers of our meeting
I cannot hear any hum,
But I'll ride this mountain down.

The Message
This is mostly an experiment in attempting to apply musical polymeter to a poetic form. The shifting rhyme scheme contrasts the steady repetition of lines beginning with 'of', which come about every 4 lines while the initial rhymes resolve in 5, and later in 3. Also, the establishment of a more concrete poetic meter builds over the last nine lines to create the illusion of elongation towards the climax.

Very interesting conception to put to rhyming. I see the concept of two (or three) metric frameworks at the end there and it's translation to poetic meter. But I'm not sure, could you explain further?

A side note, I've studied music too but, I don't compose or anything ^^, do you play any instruments?

I like music (Listening, playing and composing), reading and boardgames. As to writing, I prefer complex metaphor and Lovecraftian influences... and generally being incoherent, haha. more..
