Cold

Cold

A Poem by Beatrice Mars
"

In this Day and Age

"

My Shadow's getting fatter
'cos the sun is lower down
and generally not as good.
My shadow's gotten fatter,
'Cos I’m wearing more clothes
(bundled up in clichés
and
prejudices)

And there's no one on the corners
('cos it's getting colder)
I'd call this
Anti-Socialism
but then what was it before
and my shadow's getting fatter.

I'm seeking inspiration
just to keep away the cold
but in this day and age
(well for my children,
who'll be coming soon,
in this day and age.)
the cold won't be here very long.

And I got to
Smoke a cigarette
just to keep myself warm.
My Shadow's getting fatter,
And I’m wrapping up in track suits
trying to keep
the idealisms
away.

Got to smoke a cigarette just to keep
myself warm.
