A Million Chances

A Million Chances

A Poem by Tatiana Lexia

"She has no reason,"
Excuse me?
"She shouldn't be upset with him."
Were you there to see
What we went through?

"He's the victim, really.
He did nothing wrong."
No, he did a lot.
I was the one holding strong
To a boy who didn't care enough.

You didn't hear
All the things he said.
You have no idea
The words he filled in my head;
You know nothing.

"But he's so nice to you!"
Because he feels bad.
"No, he still loves you!"
He should have known what he had
Before he gave it all up.

"Give him a second chance."
Not ever again.
"Why not?"
Because that would be inane
When he's had a million.

You weren't there,
You don't know.
What it's like
When a boy doesn't show
Anything that's true.

Walk a mile in my shoes,
Relive that time as me.
Know the truth of what went down
Then you'll really see
Why he's as good as dead.
