A Deafening Thump

A Deafening Thump

A Poem by Ryan
"

The noisiness of the world, and diving deeper to escape.

"
Incessant shrieks of man.
I cannot drown them out.
Never a moment of silence.
Always a spectre following,
Stalking, observing.
Never a peaceful breath.

For days at a time
I meditate.
My lungs fill with cool liquid.
The pressure heaves against my eyes.
My pulse slows to an unobservable rate.
Here there is peace;

The heavy current,
My swaying body.
The waves above,
A calming swish in my ear.
A cooling touch all around,
Inside me.
And the beat of my heart,
A deafening thump.
