A Fallen Angel

A Fallen Angel

A Story by Kaia

Haven’t you seen?

The angels have all fallen from Heaven

Those pearly gates are long locked

And the demons,

They run the show

With their highway to Hell

And you?

Well, you’re in the middle of it, darling

Fallen angels roam the earth rather than the Heavens

And black-eyed demons roam the plains of the living rather than the damned

I still can’t tell whether you’re my demon

Living a life of good intentions that turned out to be the road to Edom

Or whether I’m your fallen angel

All but scorned from Heaven and too guilty to speak to my brethren

I suppose it’s somewhat poetic,

They do say that the tragedies happen to be the most Shakespearean

And with all the pain we’ve been through

All the loss we’ve both been burdened with and the loss that we’ve given

I do believe that maybe we’re the next poem

There’s a beauty in the graces of a fallen angel,

Or so they say;

There’s a longing for a home that brought only sadness

A longing that speaks of long stormy nights

And guilt brought on by the memories of a life long forgotten

And there’s an understanding in the broken soul of a demon,

At least, that’s what I’m told

Because...You’re never truly gone from me, are you?

There’s a recklessness in your mind,

Fueling your smiles as you hunt through the night

So what if you aren’t like the real demons you face?

Aren’t they made by years and years of corruption, heartbreak and pain?

How can you sit here and tell, then,

That you are not of their kind?
Maybe you picked a different side,

Maybe you decided you didn’t want to think about it

But it still happened, did it not?

I, maybe, am considered a demon,

I’ve faced the corruption

The heartbreak of betraying brothers who were once so dear to me

And the pain of knowing that my own family would kill me in a heartbeat knowing they think my death will ease their need for a home

The first angels that fell,

The Knights of Hell,

They once had the most beautiful wings

The most magnificent halos

And when they fell,

They warped their halos into horns

And their once-white wings into scorned scars of a battle long-passed

It’s a long fall from Heaven,

Even longer fall if you were to fall all the way to Hell

I’ve fallen to the mortal plain,

Where I have to watch my brothers and sisters hopelessly roam the Earth in hopes of revenge

And you,

You were on the mortal plain to begin with,

Your soul neither devine nor damned

So you sunk to Hell,

To the place I had once sworn to decimate

But now the place I prayed too

To give me your soul back

Without the scorn

Here we are

An angel without wings nor a halo

And a demon without the blinding wrath or unseeable mark of the damned
