Someone Poisoned My Brain

Someone Poisoned My Brain

A Poem by VelvetPotato
"

Inspired by my difficulty to think positively.

"
Someone poisoned my Brain,
Poured acid through the membranes,
Gased the lobes, made them toxic,
Squeezed the arteries, yes, hypoxic!

I would like to know who poisoned my brain,
They really should feel quite ashamed,
Because my mood is rain,
Days are lame,
Nights are pain,
And Life is a series of tasks with nothing to gain.

Was it Trump? That evil, orange b*****d,
Obama? Thanks, Obama, or Ah-hah, her!
Betty DeVos eradicating education!
Scott Pruitt hasting climate change!

Or maybe it was my sweet mother,
I was nurtured too heavily, under a cover,
Or Dad, he always gave lectures,
About putting away pool toys, and weather conjectures.

My boyfriend? He always forgets,
To put the T.P. on the roll, d****t!
Or my so-called, "best friend,"
Who never has a word to send.

My patients are always in distress,
Their fragile states, lives precarious,
My for-profit managers, always on me,
Soaking up labor in corporate greed.

Maybe it was the Instagram,
Unrealistic portrayals, beautiful and tan,
Or the lists and lectures of Buzzfeed,
Telling me how and who to be!

It must be the glorious mountain views,
The altitude and isolation has me coo-coo,
Or this home I bought on my own,
Forking out earnings on this loan.

But my cats shoot me dirty glances,
Escape my love, given infinite chances,
My dog is hyper and a mess,
Toys litter the floor, he can't have a rest!

If your brain feels insane
There are plenty of people and things to blame,
Excuses and rationales to find,
Anger and frustration will surely blind.

But epiphanies came,
And Wisdom was found,
"If you don't want to drown,
In self-pity and frowns,
The World won't adjust,
And Adaptability is a must!"

As an adult, there is a responsibility,
To find the key to mental strength and agility,
Seek out the anecdote to the poison,
Kill the negativity, keep it frozen,
Beat insecurities with a shovel,
And if it makes a sound, bury in rubble.

Shoot bad thoughts, with a laser,
Comparisons to others should be tasered,
Instead, your brain, dipped in gold,
Watch appreciation unfold.

Take your sulci to the spa,
Give your neurons some pasta and 'za,
Fill your ventricles up with love,
Awaken your Serotonin with a shove.

Because life is perspective from the Brain,
And goodness emphasized will lead to Gain.

...and other less fancy stuff.

Life is fragile and nothing is ever truly "free". Prayers go unanswered and Faith goes away as our nows don't match other's expectations. People settle cause they're afraid not to - few know how to be alone - let alone live with or without someone. Have you learned that the "little things" someone does - that they don't have to do but WANT to ...matter more in the waking silence at midnight to 2 A.M.?

I agree, Chris. Little gestures and kindness really add up. Thanks for your thoughts.
