We are MoreA Poem by Luci JamesonThis poem is for the lied-to For the people who were told they couldn't do it For the ones who did it anyway For the ones who were told they’d Never Be Enough But were so much more This poem is for the weighed-down The ones who have lost faith The ones who can believe Everything they hear No Matter What Don’t you ever believe them Some of you won’t listen to me Because I’m young Because I’m not a world-renowned poet Because I simply cannot Know Anything At all I know enough I remember the seventh grade I was young and unstable We had moved a couple years ago And I couldn't get over it Self-esteem Was Gone All gone, nothing left I had gone to the doctor A simple sports physical She said something was wrong with me Because I was short Turners Syndrome She said I do not have Turners Syndrome She said I would never grow She said without chemical injections I would grow to be 4-10 Nothing more I Am 5 foot So there I hope she’s happy now I hope that doctor knows Just how much it hurt To be twelve years old But Not Enough I hope she’s pleased I hope she knows Just how many times I cried myself to sleep Thinking I’d never be enough I Was Plenty So there This poem is for the lied-to For the people who were told they couldn't do it For the ones who did it anyway For the ones who were told they’d Never Be Enough But were so much more We are the over-comers We are the dreamers We are the doers We are beyond enough We Are More We will always be more © 2014 Luci Jameson |
