Helplessness

Just a thought...

I wanted to say help me,

as quiet as I could

but when I tried,

I either shouted it

or said nothing at all.

My world was crumbling 

and I needed refuge

but when I wanted to run to you to escape,

my legs either sprinted

or lost all movement.

I wanted to cry

in your arms

but when I started to,

I either bawled

or couldn't cry at all.      (because I wasn't in your arms)

My body was failing

and I needed a bed to lay on

but when I tried to settle,

I either fell

or stood straight.

I wanted to sleep

within earshot of your voice

but when I tried to close my eyes,

they either slammed shut

or wouldn't close.

I wanted to say help me,

as quietly as I could

but my lips couldn't form words.

Because they weren't mine to form,

they weren't mine to speak to you.
