Unfortunately

Unfortunately

A Poem by Alexzandera

Unfortunately

instead of starring

in a groundbreaking rom-com

in which Matthew Gray Gubler

plays my adorkable love interest

but our timing is constantly off

until one day the stars align

and our lips meet

and we find that ever-sought-after spark

Instead of that

I am destined to be the subject

of some sad poem

hidden in the fifty-third page

of a dusty, black,

college-ruled

spiral notebook

tucked away in a cardboard box

in the corner of your mother’s basement

But, unfortunately, and I couldn’t care less

Love the Spencer Reid reference.

I found the least stanza to be oddly realistic and sweet and sad and authentic. The whole thing was honest and lovely, but really, that last stanza is so vulnerable and almost naked.
I adored it.
