On Loving Myself

On Loving Myself

A Poem by Alexzandera

I know your favorite color is green

that your eyes squint

when your smile is genuine

that the pages of your notebook

are the arms that cradle you

when you’re sad

that you recite poetry

and tap your fingertips

to the pad of your thumb

when you’re anxious

and you cry when you laugh

because happiness is a dearly missed friend

I know your middle name

and those of your future children

and I know you’re afraid

you’ll never have them

and that you think

if you avoid the doctor

you can avoid reality, too

I know so many things about you

but I don’t know you

and I’m certainly not in love with you

This one truly speaks for you... thought-full and moving. And the last lines - have an unarguable realness of insight that normally takes more time to acquire.
