Little Black Box

Little Black Box

A Poem by Vivi

I got another compliment today, and I didn't know what to do.
So I looked down to the ground, I blushed and scuffed my shoe.
I took it home with me today, And I stored it in my box.
I closed the lid, heaved a sigh, and returned all the locks.

I took my box to the park today, I needed some fresh air.
I sat down and looked at the sky, it slowly turned grayer.
My box and I were not alone, for someone cleared a throat.
I remember our next words quite well, and I do not misquote:

" That box of yours is just like mine, I've carried it all these years.
I've waited and carried my box around, so these words could reach your ears
."

Then they stood and dropped their box onto the dirty ground.
I clutched my box to my chest, and frantically looked around.
I ask 'Why do you drop your box, which holds your happiness?'
They say 'Cause I found you at last, and I need you, no more, no less.'

I walk away with them, hand in hand while the sun did shine.

I am theirs today, and today, they are mine.

We went far away today, and left our boxes far behind.
